Right? You’ve all heard the tales, cars cost a fortune up here, even an old beater is expensive as F...

BUT.. Here’s an old Saab 9000, cost me about 500 USD.

Kinja'd!!!

And it’s my daily driver. Yes sir, 500 bucks for a daily driver, in Norway.. I’ve driven it 6500 miles since I bought it, and the only thing it needs is a new CV joint.

Sure I had to buy new tyres this spring, but that’s something you have to do anyway after the odd miles.

Ps. New cars are expensive as shit though :P

But aren’t Teslas cheap (ish) like Golf money or something because they get so many tax breaks that Norway can afford because it produces fossil fuels?

Uhm.. well.. Teslas are quite cheap compared to let’s say a Mercedes or such yes. Not because fossil fuels though.. But yeah, electric cars are cheap here.

You guys have it much better for cheap old cars though, I browse European classifieds all the time and can’t keep my jaw from dropping.

I love the SAAB 9000. My dad worked for a SAAB dealership and I enjoyed going to with him to drop off courtesy cars.

Also Malcolm Wilson, rally driver and boss of M-Sport who make all those rally Ford Fiestas used to own a SAAB dealership a few miles away from me.

Yeah, I have a friend who lived in LA and had an E92 M3. When she moved to Norway for work for a while she had to get used to drive a sub 2-liter diesel Peugeot or something.

We do indeed, found a mint condition 1978 Ford Fiesta for about 1500 USD the other day. A friend have a Citroën DS 23 Break for sale, 2000 USD.

That’s very cheap for a DS.

They can go for £20,000 or £30,000 in the UK.

Want a genuine Chapron convertible? Multiply by ten.

i imagine the import taxes would be somewhere approaching that if you wanted to do something to get around that crazy price?

(Googles)

Basic 60 kw Tesla with bakhjulsdrift and no extras 594,800 including free toll roads.

That would buy you about two ordinary (not elbiler) Golfs so no, not as cheap as I thought.

I see Norway cannot into the Scirocco.

They aren’t socialist. That’s Sweden. They are just taxed to high hell. They are the richest and wealthiest country in Europe.

You could always buy a car from Sweden, but then you’d have to deal with the paperwork. One of my buddies got his GTO from Sweden, and is the only one in Norway with a new GTO.

“Norway divides state power between the Parliament , the Cabinet , and the Supreme Court , as determined by the 1814 Constitution

and

“The country maintains a combination of market economy and a Nordic welfare model ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordic_mo… )
with universal health care and a comprehensive social security system.”

so really, A socialist unitary parliamentary constitutional monarchy.
